The day started with us loading up in the van and car on a partially sunny day for our time away from the build. We began our day going to the Rainforest Express located northwest of Auckland. The Rainforest Express is a tour to a dam via a small train. This is a small tour put on by the Water Department which supplies the Auckland area with most of its water. The ride to the dam takes about 45 minutes through many, many tunnels and through much relatively young vegetation. We hiked up to the dam and had a short history lesson, stopped for a lunch break (snack break for us) at the picnic site, and got back on the train for the return trip. After the Rainforest Express we headed up to Piha and Lion's Head Rock. It was a beautiful black beach and a few brave souls ventured to climb Lion's Head Rock. We then traveled the curvy road back to Elevations (restaurant) where there was a beautiful panorama of greater Auckland. We then made our way back to Auckland and headed to the Sky Tower. We spent about an hour or so up on the Sky Tower watching the sun set and ships sailing in and out of the harbor. A good time was had by all and we headed back to our hotel for our last night's sleep before another day of work and heading off to our home stays.
